Minako "mooki" Obata
シンガー/ソングライター。 5歳の時に電子オルガンを始め音楽の基礎を学ぶ。幼い時から歌うことに対してとても強い情熱を抱いていた。ジャズ、R&B、ゴスペルなどに強く影響を受けて育ち、大学在学中に地元のジャズクラブでレギュラーシンガーとして歌い始める。ちょうどその頃に作ったデモテープが、音楽関係者の耳に止まり、卒業後にMinako Obataとしてビクターエンタテインメントよりプロ・デビュー。
1995 年 1st アルバム『WE HAVE A DREAM』リリース。難曲として知られるチック・コリアの「スペイン」を 堂々と歌い上げたカヴァートラックは、“本格派ヴォーカリストの登場”として、注目を集めた。続いてLA のトップミュージシャンとのセッションを収録した 2nd アルバム『TRUE PEACE OF MIND』リリース。1997 年には3rd アルバム『BRAND NEW DAY』、クリスマス・ミニアルバム『ONCE UPON A TIME』を発表。
2001年に全世界公開されたアニメーション映画「メトロポリス」で主題歌を作詞・歌唱。 これを期に彼女のニックネームをミドルネームとしたMinako"mooki"Obataに改名。 以降、ソロ活動に加えて、作家としての楽曲提供や、レコーディングに精力的に取り組み、 2006年から2010年に放映されたTV アニメ「ブラックラグ ーン」 2008年放映の「カイバ」、2009年のNHK 朝ドラ「つばさ」などにも楽曲提供、 さらに2009年公開のアニメーション映画 「マイマイ新子と千年の魔法」では、アカペラ多重録音のスキャットでサウンドトラックを制作し、大きな話題となった。 一方、ヴォーカルディレクションやヴォーカルコーチとしての活動を通して、歌うこと、音楽が与えてくれる喜びを伝え広めている。
2014年、満を持して『mooki ~The Best and more~』をリリース。 過去に発表されたアルバムからセレクトした曲に加えて、2014 年に録音した、書き下ろしの新曲 3 曲も収録。 彼女の“Now and Then”そして未来を感じることの出来る、まさに BEST な 1 枚となっている。
Minako "mooki" Obata
is a singer/song writer. Born and raised up in Osaka, Japan, she began to take lessons of electronic organs at the age of 5, learned the very basic music theory.
Her passion for singing was very strong even though she was a little child. Strongly inspired and influenced by great music of jazz, R&B, gospel, she started her career as a vocalist, singing at a local jazz club when she was a college student. Around the same time she began to write songs, making demos which later lead her to the professional career in the music industry.
In 1995, she made her debut with her 1st album" We Have A Dream", a collection of R&B and jazz flavored songs including the well known jazz tune "Spain", which she sang with dignity captured hearts and souls of music fans. In the followed albums "True Peace Of Mind" in 1996, "Brand New Day" and " Once Upon A Time" in 1997, she collaborated with all-star cats in LA, like Bill Champlin, Bill Cantos, David Garfield, Gerald Albright, Jay Graydon, Abraham Laboriel, Brian Bromberg…. Just to name a few.
Adding to her solo career, writing songs for films and dramas became another passion for her. In 2001, for the anime film "Metropolis" released all over the world, she wrote the theme song’s lyrics and sang it. Her songs and voices can be heard in movies such as popular TV anime series"Black Lagoon"(2006~2010) , "Kaiba"(2008), NHK Asadora drama "Tsubasa" (2009), and many more. In 2009, she worked on the sound tracks of the anime film "Mai Mai Miracle”, in which her multi overdubbed a-Capella music was fresh and modern, and highly applauded. Her another mission leads her to teach voice and singing with enthusiasm to introduce and spread the unspeakable joy of music.
In 2014, long-waited new album "mooki ~The Best and more~ " is released. A collection of selected songs from the previously released albums PLUS 3 self-penned brand new songs included. You can take a journey with mooki throughout her career and be lead to the exciting future of mooki’ s world!
